Head to the Buderim Ginger Factory on the Sunshine Coast for a Great Day Out

May 7, 2011

Ginger Factory Yandina

The sun was shinning and  I had a day off with no plans, so I decided to head to the Buderim Ginger Factory in Yandina. I was pleasantly surprised.  There is plenty to do, so if you go for a visit make sure you have a few hours.

First I was taken on a Taste of Ginger Tour and shown the different stages of growing though to production. At the end they give you a taster of the different ways in which you can use ginger in cooking. My favourite was the Ginger soaked pineapple.

I just missed the train ride so decided to walk around the beautiful gardens full of wild ginger plants and then had a look round their quaint shops which included a macadamia nut shop, a toy shop, a scent shop and an Australian souvenir shop with dead toad wallets!!!

Next was the Superbee Live Bee Show. This was really interesting learning about the life of a bee and its hive. This also ended with honey tasting.

If this wasn’t enough they also have a train ride that takes you through the beautiful gardens, an indoor boat ride for the youngsters and cooking classes.

If you are staying on the Shinshine Coast, the Ginger Factory is not to be missed.

Harry’s on Buderim

April 30, 2011

Harrys on Buderim

We had another birthday in the family last night so decided to try Harry’s on Buderim. The restaurant is set in one of Buderim’s earliest build homes dating back to 1880. The building was moved to it present location and loving resorted in 1990.

As we had booked a table for 7pm, it was dark when we arrived. I plan to take a trip back during the day to look at the beautiful building and its surroundings by day.

The food was amazing and we where extremely well looked after by owner/manager and his son. We where informed that in the colder month the dinning is moved inside to the Fire Room for a really cosy intimate experience.

Kenilworth Cheese, Wine and Food Festival

April 13, 2011

Its coming to my favorite time of year….Easter. This is the one time of year you can pig out on chocolate and not feel guilt…that is till you step on the scales!

If you fancy something other than chocolate, the best place to head to is Kenilworth on Saturday April 23rd for their annual cheese, wine and food festival. This is not to be missed.

There is an action packed day for the whole family, such as Cheester Egg Hunt, Cheese Rolling Contest, Bushfire Cooking, Cheese Making, Line Dancing OR just wonder around the numerous stalls and taste test the local produce.

Sounds like my perfect day :-).

7.   Eating out in Mooloolaba is a culinary adventure. There is something for everyone and all budgets. At the cheaper end we have Browns famous fish and chips or Thai Seasons which has been serving ridiculously cheap Thai food for years. In the mid range you could choose Karma Waters which serves faultless breakfast, lunch and dinners, or Cracked Pepper. If you fancy splashing out and love seafood and steak you can not go past M at Mooloolaba. Their seafood platters are to die for. Unlike many seafood platters there is nothing that looks like it came from the fish and chip shop round the corner!

 8.   There are several Local Markets in the area. The largest and most famous is the Eumundi Markets held on a Wednesday and Saturday. Also in the area is Beerwah Village Craft Market, Coolum Market, Yandina Makers Market, Maleny Art Craft & Collectables, Cotton Tree Market just to name a few!

 9.   Mooloolaba triathlon held in the last weekend of March. This event brings 1000s of people to the area each year and includes the Male and female elites, groups, Asics Twilight Run, Australian Power and Gas Ocean Swim and Superkidz Trialthlon.

 10. Last but not least, staying at the Seaview Resort. You can sit back and relax on your lovely balcony looking out to sea or you can either walk or take a short drive to everything that has been mentioned above. Click here to see what our past guests say about the Seaview Resort Mooloolaba.

Kirk’s English Patisserie – Only a short drive from the Seaview

March 24, 2011

We try to get out for a coffee as often as possible so we can enjoy this beautiful coast. We have recently stumbled  across Kirk’s English Patisserie only a short drive from the Seaview.

Being Pom’s ourselves it was great to find somewhere that serves excellent coffee and the best Eccles cakes I have had in Australia. Next on the list to try is the pork sausage rolls, bakewell tart, pork pie and ploughman’s….The list goes on.

We normally sit in the back courtyard admiring the beautiful yachts at their moorings.

Great Restaurant in Mooloolaba – Hot Pipis

January 13, 2011

Birthday at Hot Pipis - Mooloolaba

Well another year has flown by and it was time to celebrate my birthday this week. I received a free Birthday meal from Hot Pipis on Mooloolaba Esplanade so decided to booked a table. The weather was awfully and we contemplated cancelled as Hot Pipis is an outdoor restaurant. We decided to brave the weather and stroll down form the Seaview Resort.

The service and the food where outstanding and the weather was not a problem as they had enclosed the restaurant.

We ended up going down again the next day for coffee as they where donating all money made from the sale of coffee to the Flood Relief.
