What’s new on the Sunshine Coast

AQUA FUN PARKAqua Fun is a new and exciting water park on the Sunshine Coast, its aim is to reviving some good old fashioned values like outdoor play, creativity, social interaction whilst being challenging and extremely fun. This has to go on your ‘must do’ list when visiting Mooloolaba. It only cost $15 for 50 minutes and each session starts at the top of the hour. It is aimed at kids from 6 years and up, however I haven’t laughed so hard in ages while trying to get around the course and I am in my 30s with an 8 month old baby!

Mooloolaba Restaurant Review

The Boat Shed – Cotton TreeThis restaurant is not in Mooloolaba but is such an amazing restaurant it worth a visit whilst staying in Mooloolaba. The restaurant is only a 10 minute drive from the Seaview resort apartments and is set on the banks of the Maroochy River. During the day you can sit under the ‘cotton tree’ with a coffee and enjoy the beautiful view over the river and out to sea and by night the restaurant is lit with romantic chain lights and candles. The menu offers modern Australian cuisine with plenty of seafood option and a daily specials board. They have an extensive cocktail, wine and beer list as well as fortified wines and ports to match your desert. The Boat Shed has a relaxed, casual atmosphere with tentative wait staff. All this put together makes for a very special evening.

Great Restaurant only a short stroll from the Seaview Resort Mooloolaba

November 12, 2012

This restaurant is extremely popular with both locals and holiday makes, so it’s certainly worth booking a table in advance. Semo’s Moroccan Restaurant has also been voted 4.5 out of 5 on Trip Advisor by fellow dinners.

As we had not organised a babysitter for the evening we had our 6 month old baby on tow. We booked in advance to made sure we had a table with plenty of room for the pram for our sleeping beauty.  As per usual the restaurant was full and there where plenty of staff buzzing around to take your order and help give you menu suggestions. We where told to have anything other than a curry as you can have one of them anywhere! Actually turned out to be great advise.

We decided to have the 3 courses for $35 pp as it seemed like a great deal and would make us try something a bit different. To start we shared the king prawns infused with olive oil, garlic and Moroccan herbs and spices served with warm Turkish bread.  WOW, my mouth is watering just thinking about it! For mains we could not go past one of their signature tagines, so we had Barramundi fillets cooked through a saffron & garlic sauce with vegetables and olives, finished with a Moroccan eggplant & capsicum salsa and I had the marinated premium quality lamb cutlets char-grilled to perfection served with a fruity apricot sauce on a bed of couscous or saffron rice. Both dishes  where faultless. Normally I am not a desert person, however the poached pears in cinnamon, cloves, cardomon and saffron served warm with cinnamon roasted walnuts and almonds and ice cream was s complete hit with both of us.

Over all we had a lovely relaxed evening. It was a nice easy stroll down with the baby from the Seaview Resort. The service was great and the food was amazing.

September School Holidays at the Seaview Resort Mooloolaba

August 30, 2012

With September school holidays fast approaching now is a good time to get you accommodation booked at the Seaview Resort Mooloolaba apartments – we are filling up fast.

Mooloolaba is a fantastic place to bring the kids to keep them entertained during the school holidays, there is so much to do. If you have never been to the area then here are my top 5 things to do with the kids this September school holidays (plus a few more ideas at the bottom as there is so much to do in this area!).

1. Ginger Factory– This is one of my favourite places to visit with or without the children and it is free to get. They have recently renovated the café which is well worth a visit even if you’re just passing. If you want to have a cheap day then you can just brouse around the specialty shops they have which sell everything ginger and honey, stuffed toys, collectable toy cars, soaps and locally made produce. The Ginger Factory has beautiful gardens to wonder around in with amazing ginger plants everywhere. They also have a recently opened chocolate factory where you can watch them make delicious chocolate goodies. The Ginger Factory offer tours which do cost but you can buy a couple to make it cheaper. You have the option of a ginger tour of the factory and get to taste some surprising ginger recipes. The Bee Tour showing you the remarkable life of a bee as well as honey tasting. The train ride which takes you through the gardens (the kids love the train) and also the boat ride which scared my 2 year old nephew!

2. The Big Pineapple Sunday Fiesta Market – This is aimed at young and old with train rides, animal farm, rainforest tours, roaming performers, bouncy castles, arts and crafts for the kids and fine food, great coffee and fashion for the parents. This is a great day out.

3. Mooloolaba Wharf – During the school holidays the wharf have a free petting farm with lambs, goats and chickens which the little ones love. The wharf also has a 3 person reverse bungee reaching 6G’s, 220 km and launches 60 metres into the air!! For the little ones they also have a kiddie’s trampoline.

4. Learn to Surf – Make the most of the amazing weather that Mooloolaba has during the September school holidays and head to the beach and learn to surf. This is great for all ages, lesson start from $60 for adults and $50 for children for a 2 hour lesson.

5. Underwater World – The main tunnel has been under maintenance for the last few months and they are having a grand opening on Saturday 22nd September. This is a great day out for the whole family, there are so many weird and wonderful creatures to look at. Underwater World also offer loads of different animal experiences such as seal trainer for a day, swim with the sharks and seal swims to name a few.

There are so many activities to do with the kids in Mooloolaba here are a few more ideas

Big Kart Track
Australia Zoo
Aussie World
Nut and chocolate factory – accross the road from The ginger factory.
Maleny Cheese factory tour
Stand up paddle boarding
Strawberry picking

Big Pineapple – Only a short drive from the Seaview Resort Mooloolaba

August 27, 2012

After being shut for many years the Big Pineapple is slowly re-opening different areas. The building itself is still shabby but this adds to its charm. The newest event they are hosting is the Sunday Fiesta Markets. This is different from their famous fruit and veg market on a Saturday as this is aimed at families. There are still many of the same stalls upstairs offering fine food, fashion and locally made baskets. In addition to this, there are roaming performers wowing the crowds with magic and card tricks, children’s work shops where they can learn art and crafts, bouncy castles and the strangest blow up paint balling arena that I have ever seen. If you fancy trying paint balling but don’t want to go to the expense of a whole day then head to the big Pineapple. They offer short 15 minute games for approx $15 including bullets. This market is on from 8.30 to 3pm and diffidently worth a look even if its just to drop in to their Parfait Cafe for some gorgeous refreshments.

Big Pineapple Farmers Market – Sunshine Coast

May 8, 2012

Whilst on holiday at the Sunshine Coast, a must see is the Big Pineapple Saturday Markets. This has to be one of the best farmers markets I have been to with countless stalls all selling unique locally produced food. Most of the stalls have tastings plates so you can try the amazing food before you buy. My favourite stall had sweet Duka – cinnamon and walnut or dark chocolate and coffee where a hit.  There is also a large food court area so you can by some lunch and you can either have a picnic on the grounds or take it to the viewing deck and enjoy tranquil grounds.

If you are heading there with a small family the Big Pineapple also has a wonderful petting zoo that will keep the kids amused.

The Big Pineapple Market has plenty of parking is half undercover, so makes for a perfect morning out if the weather is not so good.
