Beaches of the Sunshine Coast

May 25, 2018

The Sunshine Coast stretches over 55 kilometres of coastline, from Caloundra in the south to Noosa Heads in the north, with 36 stunning sun-soaked beaches.

From Caloundra to Noosa the coastline is strewn with sandy shores and open ocean, each with their own features and facilities. Some of the beaches are protected and safe for swimming, others are perfect for surfing and then there’s those that are ideal for a long leisurely stroll along the sandy shores. So don’t just visit the local beach here in Mooloolaba, but get out and about during your stay and enjoy some beach hopping.

So here is the lowdown on the sun-soaked beaches of the Sunshine Coast:

Beaches in Caloundra vary from the calm protected waters in the Pumicestone Passage at Golden Beach and Bulcock Beach, to the surf break at Moffat Beach, to family friendly Kings Beach. You can enjoy everything from windsurfing to volleyball, family barbecues to beach yoga and pilates on the beaches of Caloundra which is why it is very popular with families.

With its long stretch of open beaches, this region hosts some of the best surfing spots on the Sunshine Coast with names like Wurtulla, Buddina, Currumundi and Warana Beaches. Keen surfers are spoilt with their pick of uncrowded banks on this superb section of coastline.

Naturally our very own Mooloolaba Beach is extremely popular boasting countless barbecue areas, great amenities, clean swell and lifeguards aplenty. Mooloolaba’s serene beaches are a visitor’s dream and are very safe for swimming. Afterwards enjoy a bit of retail therapy at Mooloolaba’s exclusive boutiques or relax at one of the many cafes and restaurants for some alfresco dining along the beachfront.

The beaches surrounding Maroochydore offer something for everyone, with superb surfing and many recreation activities including kite surfing and fishing. Maroochydore Beach is patrolled by lifeguards 7 days a week for your safety. If you want to try some calmer waters then the Maroochy River has lovely sandy shores and is perfect for paddling a kayak or standup paddleboard.

Nestled amongst towering cliffs, the beaches surrounding Coolum offer a great blend of features and facilities with beaches at Coolum, Yaroomba, Marcoola and Peregian. You can join the crowds at the patrolled beaches, enjoy a quiet sunbake or surf at the more secluded spots and take the dog for a walk in the convenient dog friendly areas. Coolum is amongst one of the Sunshine Coast’s most popular beaches.

Further north of Coolum, if you are looking for some quieter more secluded and lesser known beaches on the Sunshine Coast, try some of the spots between Coolum and Noosa – Marcus Beach, Sunrise Beach and Sunshine Beach. They are simply superb.

Noosa has a spectacular assortment of beaches offering everything from horse riding to snorkelling, leisurely swimming and great surfing. The main beach is patrolled 365 days a year and is perfectly protected from strong southerly winds. The area also boasts many uncrowded and secluded beaches hidden amongst the cliffs and bays throughout the Noosa National Park.

What’s new on the Sunshine Coast – Great things to see and do

Aussie World on the Sunshine Coast

Aussie World is one of the Sunshine Coast oldest and most famous attractions. Over the last few years they have been continuously changing and adding new attractions to keep people coming back again and again.

One of their new attractions is the Leak`n Logs. This is their new water play area which has a walk through mist shed sitting underneath a leaky corrugated iron water tank. Random tipping buckets, intermittent and continuous showers, an outback log waterfall, irregular dancing water jets and a tin shed that inside emulates a typical Queensland electrical storm complete with thunder, wind, lighting and rain. Perfect way to cool of on a hot Queensland summers day.

8 Free Activities in Mooloolaba and the Sunshine Coast this June School Holiday

May 17, 2013

School holidays are great but they can get very expensive, especially when you have more then one child to entertain. Here are a few ideas of what you can see and do in Mooloolaba and the Sunshine Coast that won`t cost you a cent.

  1. Head to Loo with a view on a Wednesday evening and join the Drum Circle and fire twirlers down on the beach. All ages welcome, even the little kiddies can join in with their own drum.
  2. Explore the Maroochy wetlands near Bli Bli. There is a boardwalk through the wet lands where you can see wet and dry eucalypt forests, rainforest, melaleuca forest, casuarina woodland, salt marsh and mangroves. You can watch over 200 species of birds, as well as crabs, butterflies and other wildlife species that make the wetlands their home.
  3. Just along from Mooloolaba’s beautiful sandy patrol beach is some amazing rock pools. Big and small kids love the rock pools and its amazing what they can find and how long this will keep them amused.
  4. During the school holidays there is a petting zoo at Mooloolaba Wharf. Introduce the children to the friendly goats, fluffy chickens and cute lambs.
  5. For the energetic one, take a walk to the Mooloolaba’s rock wall. All you have to do is cross the road in front of the Seaview Resort and join the walking track. You can follow the track along the beach and through the boardwalk and past some play parks or walk on the beach picking up seashells. The round trip is about 5kms. If you get hungry along the way you can stop off at the wharf and get some fresh fish and chips.
  6. Have a BBQ on the beach front. Most people head to the BBQ’s near the surf club but my favorite BBQ area is just past the boardwalk. They are less busy and view is amazing.
  7. Every Saturday from 6.30am there is an all weather market at the The Big Pineapple. There are so many interesting stalls to wonder around and many of the food stalls offer free samples. There is also plenty of space out on the grass for the kids to run around. My favorite thing to do is buy some yummy food from the stalls and sit on the grass and have a picnic.
  8. If you have booked a holiday at the Seaview Resort at Mooloolaba, the kids can borrow tennis rackets for a hit about on the tennis court or borrow a board game reception while you can unwind in the sauna or relax by the heated swimming pool…great facilities at this Mooloolaba Resort.

If you are after a great deal on Mooloolaba Accommodation, then Seaview Resort is offering stay 7 pay for 5 or stay 3 pay for 2. Be quick as this is subject to allocations.  To take advantage of this great deal you can call or friendly staff on 07 5444 3400 or book on line by entering the code promotional code 745 or 342.
