Noosa Food and WIne Festival
Not new to the Sunshine Coast but when we have free tickets worth $210 per couple to give away, I think it is definitely worth a mention. Noosa Food and Wine Festival is celebrating its 10th Anniversary and will be over four glorious days. This year the festival will be host to 200 of the world`s prominent chefs, winemakers, food personalities, media and foodies. The festival has been extended to new venues at Noosa Main Beach and Noosa National Park. As part of the 10th anniversary, 10 chefs from the S. Pellegrino World`s Best Restaurants list will join the festival. Hot Pipis has been open since 1993 and is loved by loyal locals and tourists alike. Open for 18hrs a day you are always going to be given a warm welcome whether is just for a coffee in the morning or a sumptuous 3 course meal in the evening. The breakfast menu has many of your classics plus a few `quirky` options including chef`s Sicilian sunrise, house made baked beanz, house baked brioche and chef`s traditional recipe fruit toast. The lunch menu covers everything from tapas, burgers, pasta, salad and seafood which include their famous seafood curry. An evening meal at Hot Pipis can be a quick bit to eat or a delectable 3 course meal. Our personal favourites are the Mooloolaba prawns with sesame and soy glaze, wakame salad, pickled ginger, cherry tomatoes and chilli oil to start, followed by Hot Pipis famous seafood curry for main and any of the tantalising deserts. To top of their incredible food and service Hot Pipis also generously donate their time and often their kitchen to help raise money for their chosen charities. This includes Christmas day where you can enjoy coffee and cake for a donation. What an amazing team. |

 Sunshine Coast Flyboarding XperienceNew extreme water sport, Flyboarding comes to the Sunshine Coast. This looks like something you would only see in movies and so far Maroochy River Jet Ski hire is the only place in Australia that you can experience this for yourself.FlyBoards are the newest extreme sporting sensation to be capturing the worlds attention and became an instant YouTube hit upon its release in December 2011. A FlyBoard is an attachment to a Jetski which re-diverts water from the jetpump, up through a kevlar hose to a set of boots with outlet nozzles, propelling the rider skyward and allowing them to perform spectacular manoeuvres above and below the water. FlyBoarding is proving to be not just a spectacular and safe sport but dynamic in appearance and extremely easy to learn. |

Thai Lotus – Brisbane Road Mooloolaba This is my favourite Thai restaurant. It is only small and very basic but the food is amazing. The menu has all the standard dishes you would expect from a Thai a restaurant. I always end up ordering a stir fry dish, such as chicken and cashew nuts or chilli and basil pork as most the time I am trying to be healthy and these dishes come packed with fresh vegetables. All main meals come with rice included in the price and the restaurant is BYO everything, so this makes for a very cheap and enjoyable evening |

One of the newest restaurant and bar in Mooloolaba, formerly EV, opened its doors in June. It is a hidden gem, as it is not noticeable when walking along the Mooloolaba Esplanade restaurant strip. It is situated above Cracked Pepper with the entrance via the stairs in the Mantra shopping foyer behind the M @ Mooloolaba restaurant. When you find your way in, you will be looked after by the new owners Trish and Brendan. The seating around the edge takes advantage of the view out towards the sea. It is great way to spend the day and early evening watching the sun go down.The menu caters for all occasions including light lunches, gorgeous platters to share as well as a nightly dinner menu. We started the evening off with homemade dips to share which was extremely tasty and healthy. For mains we went on to have panned calamari served with smoked chorizo, green chilli, Danish feta, pine nuts, orange soaked currants and herb salad which was a taste sensation. My dinning partner decided to order the organic spatchcock, kipfler potatoes, wilted spinach, mount zero olives, braised artichoke and Spanish vinaigrette. Everything on the menu reads like a fine dining restaurant at pub prices. Where else can you find spatchcock for a reasonable price?To compliment the meals was a wine list with enough variety to offer something for everyone at reasonable prices and a good selection of beers on tab, both local and imported. On Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon you can sit and listen to fantastic live music. If you plan on heading out for lunch or dinner while in Mooloolaba I highly recommend One Up.
As always, Australia Zoo is offering an action packed day during the school holidays that will tire out even the most energetic of little ones.There’s never a dull moment as you encounter wildlife action and free entertainment daily.

Join the Mary Valley Rattler for this great day of historical re-enactment in conjunction with your Rattler journey on the third Sunday of each month. “The Valley Rattler” steam heritage tours are operated by The Mary Valley Heritage Railway (MVHR) every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesdays. Tours depart from the historic Gympie Railway station and the destination varies according to the day of operation.
The full spectrum of colour is explored in these new artworks by noted Australian artist Kevin Oxley at Art on Cairncross near Maleny in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast hinterland.

26th January – Havaianas Australia Day Challenge
The Havaianas Thong Challenge will once again be held at 5 of Australia’s most iconic beaches on Australia Day 2011. Year on year the event has got bigger and better as each state in Australia unleashes their competitive streak striving to claim the new WORLD RECORD TITLE and nationwide praise and glory! This Australia Day the challenge is on again and last year’s champions in WA are ready to defend their title and fight for consecutive victory.
